Controls Engineering Intern – Summer 2026

WSP USA is offering an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Controls Engineering Intern – Summer 2026 to join our kW Team in Tempe, AZ. This temporary position is designed for individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program and offers hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude.

As part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, you will participate in a 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026, with some flexibility on the individual start date.

Your Impact

As a Controls Engineering Intern, you will gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting a variety of engineering tasks focused on developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learning basic principles of Controls Engineering.
  • Assisting with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Supporting the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assisting in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Completing training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Please note: There is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Controls Engineering, or a related field, with a strong desire to advance skills relevant to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective and professional interaction with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and the ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience.
  • Leadership involvement on campus.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is $23.03 – $29.96 per hour. WSP USA determines compensation based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s protected status.
