The Tone:
This is a seasonal, on-site role at a Christian day camp. The organization provides a supportive ministry team dedicated to enriching the lives of campers in a Christian environment, emphasizing safety, engagement, and meaningful experiences. This role is crucial for actively monitoring, leading, and guiding groups of children aged 5-14. You will foster positive interactions and ensure their comprehensive well-being throughout daily activities and field trips. As a Junior Counselor, you will collaborate closely with children, fellow counselors, and staff to uphold the camp’s ministry objectives.

• Team: Integral part of a supportive ministry team, collaborating with lead counselors and staff, with an implied reporting line to the Day Camp Director.
• Mission: To create a safe, engaging, and meaningful summer day camp experience by actively monitoring, leading, and guiding children and ensuring their well-being.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Camper Supervision: Provide dedicated support to lead counselors by supervising a small group of youth aged 5-14 on-site at the camp and during off-site excursions.
• Safety Adherence: Maintain constant awareness of and strictly follow all established safety precautions and procedures, ensuring never to be solely responsible for a group of children.
• Activity Leadership: Collaborate with program staff to plan, prepare for, and execute daily camp activities, enthusiastically encouraging camper participation in all initiatives.
• Welfare & Conflict Resolution: Be directly responsible for the welfare and safety of all assigned campers, working constructively with staff to address and resolve problems or conflicts.
• Emergency Response & Reporting: Administer emergency first aid as needed, accurately record treatments, and promptly report incidents or significant issues concerning campers or staff to the Day Camp Director.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be at least 16 years old. Required to complete “Safe From Harm” training and obtain/maintain current First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
• Experience: Prior experience working with children is highly valued. Previous experience supervising campers is desired.
• Skills: Essential willingness to work cooperatively as part of a ministry team. Basic computer skills are required for administrative tasks and communication.
• Bonus: Familiarity with arts & crafts techniques and activities. Basic music knowledge or ability.
