Enterprise Risk Management Intern | The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
The Tone:
This is an internship at The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, located in New York, NY. The Port Authority builds, operates, and maintains critical transportation and trade infrastructure across the region, including airports, bridges, tunnels, and seaports, supporting significant economic activity and regional jobs. This role within the Enterprise Risk Management Division is vital to the agency’s financial health and future capital capacity, by enabling proactive identification and management of business risks that affect objectives and strategy. The intern will gain a unique overview of the agency’s diverse business lines and internal processes.
The TL;DR

• Pay: $18.07–$30.31 hourly
• Team: Enterprise Risk Management Division (ERM) within the Finance organization
• Mission: To support the proactive identification and comprehensive management of business risks across the entire agency, thereby improving risk awareness and enhancing decision-making capabilities within a critical public infrastructure organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Risk Identification: Collaborate with ERM staff and senior management across the agency to proactively identify, meticulously assess, and continuously monitor diverse business risks that could impact agency objectives.
• Business Integration: Provide crucial support for efforts aimed at aligning enterprise risk management with key agency business processes, including annual business planning, budgeting cycles, long-range capital capacity forecasting, and performance measurement.
• Risk Assessment: Actively contribute to and support the systematic execution of various risk assessments, ensuring thorough evaluation of potential threats and opportunities.
• Risk Analysis: Conduct insightful research on emerging trends relevant to enterprise risk and meticulously analyze Agency-specific risk data to inform strategic decisions.
• Reporting: Develop clear and concise risk intelligence reports and compelling presentations tailored for the Board of Commissioners and senior management, highlighting critical risk exposures and mitigation strategies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Current enrollment at a college or university pursuing a major in Enterprise Risk Management, Finance, Public Administration, or a closely related academic discipline.
• Experience: Possess some foundational knowledge of risk management principles, finance, or operational processes, coupled with practical experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong data analysis capabilities, an ability to effectively solve problems using both quantitative and qualitative data related to operations and finance, excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, and proficiency in conducting Internet research.
