About the Job: Reconditioning Associate II

General Summary
As a Reconditioning Associate II, you will be responsible for completing cosmetic inspections and final quality inspections of CarMax used, new, and customer vehicles. A key part of your role involves vehicle cleaning, paint touch-up, wet sanding, and buffing, ensuring all work adheres to CarMax standards.
On an as-needed basis, you will also perform duties typically assigned to Reconditioning Associate and Reconditioning Associate I roles. These include, but are not limited to:
- Zone maintenance
- Vehicle preparation for delivery
- Vehicle receiving
- Inventory scanning
- Vehicle movement (both on and off the lot)
- Basic vehicle detailing, including car wash, wash bay operations, interior cleaning/vacuuming, and exterior cleanliness.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
- Execute standardized work processes at an established pace.
- Actively participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement activities with your team.
- Assist in training new associates under the guidance of a Reconditioning Associate Lead.
- Perform various cosmetic reconditioning, cleaning, and repair processes, including paint touch-up, wet sanding, and buffing, all according to CarMax standards.
- Complete thorough Cosmetic Inspections.
- Complete comprehensive Final Quality Inspections.
- Ensure your workplace is clean and organized, in accordance with CarMax 5S standards.
- Identify defects and determine the most appropriate repair methods according to CarMax standards.
- Provide support for auction operations.
- Drive vehicles both on and off the lot safely.
- Provide outstanding customer service at all times.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by Leads and Managers.
Job Specifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following prerequisites and possess the ability to:
- Complete all required online and hands-on training, including KRONOS Training for Hourly Associates.
- Be accountable to the Associate 1 Competency Model.
- Meet Reconditioning Associate and Reconditioning I Performance Standards.
- Successfully complete Reconditioning Associate, Reconditioning Associate I, and Reconditioning Associate II Workstation Certifications.
- Read, interpret, and transcribe data accurately to maintain records.
- Perform multiple duties efficiently in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
- Perform manual tasks at a specific pace for a specific period of time.
- Lift objects weighing as much as 50 lbs.
- Speak and listen effectively when interacting with customers and associates, both in person and over the phone.
- Complete CarMax-provided training in all functional areas of the inventory process, enabling cross-training and full coverage of the inventory and detail area.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include noisy and/or inclement weather conditions at times.
- Requires walking or standing for extended periods.
- Associates are required to wear CarMax clothing (acquired through the company) at all times while working in the store.
- Adherence to all CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards is mandatory, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment and proper waste disposal in required areas.
- Compliance with all CarMax policies, including Attendance, Asset Protection, Integrity, and Standards of Professional Appearance, is expected.
