Environmental Intern | GSI Environmental Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at GSI Environmental Inc., located in Missoula, MT for Summer 2026. GSI Environmental Inc. specializes in environmental and engineering projects, including litigation support, environmental investigation, remediation, risk assessments, permitting, compliance, and R&D. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly support these diverse projects, gaining practical experience in environmental consulting and contributing to significant work that addresses complex environmental challenges both domestically and internationally.

• Mission: To support engineers and geoscientists on environmental consulting projects and contribute to research initiatives that enhance company services.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Support: Report to a Project Manager/Mentor and assist engineers and geoscientists with environmental consulting projects, including investigation, site remediation, litigation support cases, and regulatory permits.
• Research & Development: Conduct research projects designed to support existing initiatives or expand the range of company services.
• Data Management: Accurately enter, verify, and evaluate laboratory data for environmental samples, then compile this information into summary tables.
• Field Participation: Potentially join field trips to observe operational groundwater remediation systems, inspect groundwater monitoring wells, or witness the installation of soil borings and/or wells.
• Quality Assurance: Perform thorough quality assurance checks on various project deliverables, including maps, tables, calculations, and reports to ensure accuracy.
• Technical Discussions: Attend project meetings with GSI staff and actively participate in technical discussions about tasks, schedules, and project progress.
• Research Presentation: Deliver a presentation to co-workers summarizing the findings of research conducted during the internship program.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional working towards a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as environmental, civil, or chemical engineering, geology, environmental science, chemistry, or geophysics.
• Experience: Ability to commit to working full-time in the office for 8 to 12 weeks during the period of June through August 2026, with flexible start and end dates.
• Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, understanding of data quality control concepts, self-motivation to learn new software and workflows with minimal guidance, ability to work both independently and in a team environment, and strong time-management skills with schedule flexibility.
• Bonus: Familiarity with environmental analytical data and knowledge of basic statistical analyses.
