The Opportunity: Finance Internship

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding Finance Internship at People’s Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Essential Utilities? We are currently hiring for a full-time intern available from May through August!

As a Finance Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the accounting, rates, and finance activities of the organization, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic utility environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance of the Company’s Accounting records in compliance with GAAP and Regulatory Accounting standards, which could include anything from bank account reconciliations and preparation of journal entries to redesign of complicated excel models.
  • Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned, which can range from routine projects to the solving of more complex problems or support in preparing presentations for executives.
  • Expect a tailored approach based on the current needs of the business, ensuring diverse and relevant learning experiences.
  • Participate in closing functions with the parent company under the supervision of a lead accountant.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Must have completed at least your sophomore year of college.
  • A specific or relevant major (accounting, finance, or related field) with a GPA greater than 3.0.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong Computer Skills: Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Data Management: Ability to evaluate large data sets and manage data to support accounting systems, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Project Management: Ability to produce and manage several projects in a quality and timely manner.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention-to-Detail: Demonstrated strength and skill in attention-to-detail.
  • Curiosity & Adaptability: Intellectually curious and adaptable to new challenges and learning opportunities.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local relevant regulations is a plus.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Working conditions may include approximately 10% travel to work sites of PNG & PTWP and/or other constituents.
  • Perform sedentary work – exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
