The Tone:
This is an internship at GlobalFoundries Fab 8, located in Malta, NY. GlobalFoundries is a leading full-service semiconductor foundry that provides design, development, and fabrication services to technology companies. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
• Location: Malta, NY (On-site)
• Pay: $20–$40 hourly
• Team: Works closely with an assigned Engineer, collaborating with equipment and maintenance teams, including engineers, technicians, managers, and production employees.
• Mission: Improve manufacturing processes, enhance problem detection, reduce operational costs, and standardize procedures within a state-of-the-art 300mm factory.
• Tech Stack: SPC (Statistical Process Control) Controls

What You’ll Actually Do
• Improve: Reduce variability in existing process recovery procedures to enhance manufacturing stability.
• Detect: Increase the ability to detect problems earlier and enhance the Limit of Detection (LOD) for process issues.
• Optimize: Reduce the cost of chemicals and/or qualification wafers through process efficiency improvements.
• Standardize: Implement consistent processes and procedures across similar equipment to ensure operational uniformity.
• Lead: Direct improvement projects, from conception to completion, and present the results to relevant stakeholders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career; must be at least a sophomore actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is required, but candidates must be enrolled in an accredited degree program. Prior related internship or co-op experience is a strong preference.
• Skills: English fluency (written & verbal), ability to work 40 hours per week during the internship, an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and the ability to understand complex automated systems and human interactions. Experience with SPC Controls is also highly valued.
• Bonus: Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to innovate, execute on solutions, and navigate ambiguity. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with planning, organizational capabilities, and a proven ability to meet deadlines and commitments.
