Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is seeking a Long-term Intern to join our dedicated Occupational Health & Safety team based in Grand Prairie, TX.

In this dynamic role, you will play a crucial part in assisting the Safety Department by supporting a wide range of Safety activities. This includes, but is not limited to, the revision of written programs, development of new programs, and meticulous maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

With over 1,000 employees, our facility offers a collaborative and engaging atmosphere. The DFW area boasts seven professional sports teams – you might even catch a glimpse of a special, custom Airbus helicopter dedicated to the Dallas Cowboys flying during home games!

Your Challenges (Key Responsibilities):

Safety Program Support (100% of focus):

  • Provides comprehensive administrative support for the Safety Department, assisting with day-to-day operations and tasks.
  • Assists with the coordination and execution of various Safety programs, activities, events, and initiatives, ensuring smooth implementation.
  • Conducts thorough research, prepares and maintains detailed spreadsheets, drafts impactful presentations, and compiles essential materials for the Safety team.
  • Supports the team with ad hoc analysis and reporting, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Assists in tracking, auditing, and diligently updating various safety initiatives to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Contributes to maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, primarily focusing on OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) standards.
  • Commits to working safely at all times and adhering to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards without exception.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance to ensure consistent support and departmental efficiency.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Safety Department or management, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach.

Your Boarding Pass (Required Qualifications & Skills):

  • Location Requirement: Must be currently local to the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) metro area, as this is a long-term, onsite internship opportunity.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Enrollment: Current enrollment in a college/university program with an area related to safety, industrial operations, or a business program focus.
  • Accuracy: Must possess a high degree of accuracy in multiple facets of the job, including record keeping and data entry.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, detailed-oriented approach, and the ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with multiple departments and various levels of the organization.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work effectively both independently and as an integral part of a team.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet critical deadlines, and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, ensuring clarity and precision.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Bonus Skills: Knowledge of Google Workspace (G-Suite) applications is a plus.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to Work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work Schedule: Onsite availability during 1st shift daytime operations in Grand Prairie for at least 20 hours per week.
  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens; able to read documents, reports, and engineering drawings on a daily basis.
  • Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms on a daily basis.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications on a daily basis.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment) and use electronic identification cards to enter building floors and internal doors; able to operate some tools, including production tools such as hydraulic lifts, on an as-needed basis.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment weighing up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment weighing up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools on a daily basis.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings and while working on a computer on a daily basis.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving on a daily basis.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor on a daily basis.
  • Travel: None.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces, on a daily basis (includes routine walking such as to a shared printer).
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Occasionally may be required to wear PPE, which includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, and Hearing Protection if visiting the shop floor.
