Quality Assurance Intern | HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding
The Tone:
This is an unpaid internship opportunity at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding, located in Newport News, VA, specifically offered through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. The company is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and a provider of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. This role offers transitioning military personnel a chance to gain real-world experience and develop skills for potential full-time roles in quality assurance, contributing to the construction of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Develop and implement program quality plans, programs, and procedures using statistical quality control, lean manufacturing, and six-sigma tools.
• Ensure: Ensure that performance and quality products consistently conform to established company and regulatory standards.
• Review: Review, analyze, and report on quality discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems.
• Investigate: Investigate problems and develop disposition plans and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
• Interface: Interface with manufacturing, engineering, customer, vendor, and subcontractor representatives to ensure all requirements are met.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Active-Duty US military personnel.
• Experience: Must be within the final 180 days of active-duty service, though candidates can begin applying within their final 12 months.
• Skills: Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), education, and military training similar to current or previous military jobs.
