Hospitality Summer Internship | SMSC and Mystic Lake

The Tone:
This is a 10-week summer internship at SMSC and Mystic Lake, located in Prior Lake, MN. SMSC and Mystic Lake operate as Minnesota’s premier casino resort and entertainment destination, owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a significant philanthropic benefactor nationally. This role offers meaningful, hands-on experience designed to build professional skills through real-world projects, mentorship, and opportunities to develop lasting connections. It provides a pathway to building futures, inspiring possibilities, and fostering growth within the gaming and entertainment industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations Rotations: Actively participate in rotations across hotel operations, housekeeping, and sales, gaining in-depth, hands-on experience in each area.
• Impactful Projects: Contribute to meaningful projects that directly impact the business, learning what is required to thrive within the gaming and entertainment industry.
• Guest and Team Connection: Engage with guests and colleagues, fostering meaningful connections while working collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
• Professional Development: Develop essential professional skills and knowledge, equipping you for the next steps toward a career, potentially in a future leadership role in hotels or hospitality management.
• Cultural Immersion: Explore the company’s culture and philanthropic efforts through various engaging activities, including touring Hocokata Ti, participating in color runs, networking events, and team building.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program pertinent to the department or team to which assigned.
• Experience: Eager to learn the intricacies of hotel operations and prepared to gain hands-on experience that will prepare you for a future leadership role in hospitality management.
• Skills: Possess excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, along with basic proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheets, or other tools standard to the assigned department.
• Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a collaborative, team environment.
