Coordinator, Orientation & Engagement | Florida State University

The Tone:
This is an Administrative & Professional (A&P) full-time role at Florida State University, located in Tallahassee, FL. This position is vital for cultivating a sense of belonging and ensuring a successful transition for new students by managing key orientation programs, planning engaging campus events, and supporting crucial retention initiatives throughout the academic year.

• Mission: Owns the successful transition and engagement of new students at Florida State University through comprehensive orientation programs, event planning, and retention initiatives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Orientation Leader Program: Provides comprehensive management of the Orientation Leader Program, overseeing recruitment, selection, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and ongoing leadership development for student orientation staff.
• First-Year Engagement Events: Plans and executes key first-year and broader campus engagement events, including specific initiatives such as “First Day Photos,” “Ask A Nole,” and the “FSU Birthday Celebration.”
• Student Retention Initiatives: Supports additional welcome initiatives across the academic year, actively collaborating with various campus partners to promote student retention, foster connection and tradition, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging among new students.
• Assessment & Strategic Projects: Assists with departmental assessment activities and strategic projects, which involves designing and analyzing surveys and program evaluations, contributing to data-informed improvements, and preparing reports that guide program and service development.
• Departmental Contribution: Contributes to the overall mission of New Student & Family Programs by actively participating in departmental events like Orientation and Family Weekend, engaging in committee work, and collaborating on cross-functional projects, while also assisting with special initiatives and serving as a liaison to campus partners as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field.
• Experience: Two years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of related experience (or a combination of post-high school education and experience totaling six years).
• Skills: Program management (recruitment, selection, training, supervision of student staff), event planning and execution, collaborative partnership development, data analysis and reporting for assessment, leadership development facilitation.
• Bonus: Master’s degree.
