Limited Term District Attorney Intern | Walworth County

This is a limited term internship at Walworth County, located in Elkhorn, WI. This unique opportunity offers direct exposure to the criminal justice system, its operations, and practical skill development relevant to careers within the court system or related fields. While primarily focused on foundational administrative tasks, the internship provides comprehensive firsthand observation of the legal process in action.

• Mission: Facilitate the efficient operation of the District Attorney’s office by handling foundational administrative tasks and supporting exposure to the criminal justice system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process documents: Route electronic and certified documents received, determining appropriate action, and forwarding them to the relevant prosecutor or support staff per office policy.
• Organize files: Perform general filing, including locating physical files for court calendars and incoming papers, in accordance with office policy.
• Manage invoices: Scan, attach, and electronically file invoices for process service.
• Support operations: Undertake other special administrative projects and duties as assigned to ensure smooth office functioning.
• Observe legal proceedings: Attend informative presentations and court proceedings to gain firsthand insight into the criminal justice system and meet a diverse array of legal personnel.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current high school or college student with zero to six months of relevant prior administrative/office experience.
• Experience: Proven ability to collate information, organize files within an established system, and perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Skills: Ability to monitor and maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and balance the demands of varying workload responsibilities and deadlines.
