Network Engineer I (Junior) | NuAxis

The Tone:

The TL;DR

• Location: Washington, DC (In-person)

• Team: Works under the guidance of senior network engineers.
• Mission: Supports the operations, monitoring, and maintenance of the enterprise network infrastructure for the Department of Labor’s Enterprise General Support System (EGSS).
• Tech Stack: MPLS WAN infrastructure, Cisco enterprise networking equipment, Hybrid cloud networking (AWS/Azure), Enterprise security systems, Network monitoring platforms, ServiceNow.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Network Monitoring: Monitor network infrastructure performance and availability to proactively identify and address potential issues.
• Connectivity Troubleshooting: Support troubleshooting of WAN and LAN connectivity issues to resolve incidents and minimize downtime for federal users.
• Device Configuration: Assist with the configuration of Cisco routers, switches, and other network devices to maintain optimal network functionality.
• Documentation Management: Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including topology diagrams and asset inventory, to ensure accurate records.
• Infrastructure Support: Support network hardware upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities, including managing incidents and changes through ServiceNow.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with a fundamental understanding of TCP/IP networking.
• Experience: 1–3 years of practical experience in network engineering roles, specifically with Cisco routers and switches, including operations, monitoring, and maintenance. Familiarity with enterprise network monitoring tools is also required.
• Skills: Strong foundational understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals; proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco enterprise networking equipment; ability to operate and interpret data from enterprise network monitoring platforms.
• Bonus: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA.
