About Our Organization

We are a Charlotte, North Carolina-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 2012 and now in our sixth year of successful operation. Our primary mission is to provide crucial support to marginalized children and their parents who reside in low-income inner-city communities in Charlotte.

LHCC Summer Camp Intern

As an LHCC Summer Camp Intern, you will embark on a rewarding journey, gaining invaluable experience and skills. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow your leadership and interpersonal skills, learn about the vital non-profit sector, and build lasting relationships with both the children we serve and our dedicated staff. Based on your specific goals for the summer, we are committed to tailoring your experience to be truly worth your while and impactful.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Attend Summer Camp Orientation and any other required meetings prior to the start of camp. Dates are TBD but tentatively scheduled for June.
  • Supervise campers, ensuring their safety, fostering their growth, and promoting their general well-being at all times.
  • Actively encourage, build up, and show kindness and grace to all campers, creating a positive and supportive environment.
  • Plan and execute engaging specific camp programs, which may include:
    • Arts and crafts
    • STEM activities
    • Sports
    • Leadership development sessions
    • Devotions
  • Assist outside partners and programs that come to lead specialized activities.
  • Actively engage and encourage campers in all activities, even when you are not the primary leader.
  • Mediate minor conflicts and report significant camper behavior/issues to senior staff members promptly.
  • Strictly enforce safety guidelines to maintain a secure and healthy environment for all participants.
  • Serve breakfast and lunch to campers.
  • Assist with general camp set-up and clean-up duties to maintain an organized space.
  • Take daily attendance of campers and complete other essential organizational tasks as needed.
  • Capture memorable moments by taking pictures during camp activities, ensuring proper consent.

Special Projects (Outside of Regular Duties)

Interns may also have the exciting opportunity to contribute to special projects, providing further professional development and a broader understanding of non-profit operations:

  • Social Media Work: Manage and update content for organizational platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, the website, and assist with other marketing projects.
  • Measurement and Reporting: Contribute to data collection efforts, including survey design, implementation, and analysis to assess program impact.
  • Marketing Review and Plan: Assess current strategies for connecting with potential volunteers, donors, and families. Suggest and help implement improvements to enhance outreach and engagement.
