The Tone:
This is an internship at LHCC, located in Charlotte, NC. LHCC is a Charlotte-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing crucial support to marginalized children and their parents in low-income inner-city communities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the success of its summer camp, fostering a positive environment for children while developing leadership and non-profit sector skills.

• Mission: This intern supports the successful operation of the summer camp by supervising campers, facilitating activities, and ensuring a safe, positive environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Supervision & Well-being: Supervise campers, ensuring their safety, fostering their growth, and promoting their general well-being at all times.
• Program Facilitation: Plan and execute engaging camp programs such as arts and crafts, STEM activities, sports, leadership development sessions, and devotions.
• Positive Environment: Actively encourage, build up, and show kindness and grace to all campers, creating a positive and supportive environment.
• Operational Support: Assist with general camp set-up and clean-up duties, serve breakfast and lunch to campers, and take daily attendance.
• Safety & Conflict Management: Strictly enforce safety guidelines, mediate minor conflicts, and report significant camper behavior/issues to senior staff promptly.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. A strong interest in youth services and development, particularly in a non-profit setting supporting marginalized children.
• Experience: Experience or a strong interest in areas such as conflict resolution, diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) principles, and relationship building.
• Skills: Leadership abilities, strong people skills, conflict resolution, and the ability to foster a positive and supportive environment.
• Bonus: Opportunity to contribute to special projects, including social media management, data collection for program impact assessment, and marketing strategy review and implementation.
