The Tone:
This is an internship at WTAE-TV, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA. WTAE-TV is dedicated to delivering live updates, in-depth coverage of critical issues, and holding public officials accountable for its viewers. This program offers college students a structured opportunity to gain professional learning experience in broadcast journalism within a leading newsroom environment. Interns will explore various facets of television news operation, contributing to the creation of authentic, accurate content for the communities served.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Produce: Contribute to TV producing by understanding the components of a newscast.
• Report: Gain experience in reporting and newsgathering to develop stories from Pittsburgh communities.
• Write: Create and edit news content suitable for all broadcast and digital platforms.
• Support: Assist with digital content creation and assignment desk operations.
• Operate: Learn about news photography, news editing, and overall broadcast production processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: College student with some classroom experience in broadcast journalism.
• Experience: Demonstrated interest in news through coursework or student organization participation.
• Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills; ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines; strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills; ability to pay close attention to detail.
• Bonus: Some knowledge of a television newsroom; willingness to work different times of day.
