Stop Loss Claims Intern | Symetra

The Tone:
This is a fully remote internship at Symetra, a financial services company dedicated to helping people achieve financial freedom, especially within underserved communities. The program runs for 12 weeks, from May 18 to August 7, 2026, offering valuable experience in the self-funded health insurance industry. Interns are an important part of the Symetra community, contributing to real projects that align with the company’s mission.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Resource Enhancement: Assist in improving the visibility and accessibility of critical resources used by both employees and external customers.
• Process Innovation: Develop and implement a structured process for capturing diverse report formats and establishing a clear workflow for their ongoing utilization.
• Industry Research: Conduct research to identify and update information on the latest healthcare trends, including advancements in cellular and gene therapies.
• Data Management: Create, expand, and maintain internal databases, and publish an updated list of approved and non-approved cost containment vendors.
• Operational Support: Identify opportunities for enhancing current processes, coordinating various tasks, and tracking project progress to support more efficient workflows within claims operations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree, with a preference for junior or senior standing. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine interest in understanding how employers, employees, and their families benefit from health care insurance coverage.
• Experience: Strong hands-on experience using Excel is required.
• Skills: The ability to be self-motivated and effectively manage tasks independently, while also collaborating productively as part of a team. A keen interest in learning new concepts and diligently completing project work is essential.
• Bonus: Prior experience working with Power BI is preferred, though not strictly required.
