The Tone:
This is an internship at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, located in Newport News, VA. Newport News Shipbuilding is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, serving as the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and a key provider of nuclear submarines. This role allows students to gain valuable experience in their field of study, contribute to critical business functions, and develop an understanding of the company’s operations within the defense industry. The experience gained could also potentially lead to future full-time employment opportunities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Experience: Gain experience in technical or administrative positions within the company.
• Field Development: Apply and expand knowledge within your specific field of study.
• Business Acumen: Develop an understanding of Newport News Shipbuilding’s overall business operations.
• Project Work: Complete a variety of assignments that are directly related to your academic major.
• Schedule: Work 40 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks during the summer months.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Must be enrolled in a 4-year college/university (or 2+2 program) or master’s degree program for Fall 2027.
• Experience: Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or greater.
• Skills: Foundational knowledge in Business, Accounting, or Finance principles, as these are the required majors for this internship.
