Motorsports Tire Engineer | Pratt Miller, An Oshkosh Company
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh Company, operating across U.S. locations. Pratt Miller specializes in product development for motorsports, defense, and mobility, providing advanced engineering and low-volume production solutions. This role is crucial as a key contributor to the application and development of fundamental and advanced tire models, directly impacting the accuracy of operations and performance for clients. The engineer will ensure that proprietary tire models and tools accurately reflect real-world operating behaviors in various motorsports applications.

• Mission: Develop and apply fundamental and advanced tire models to capture and quantify real-world operating behaviors for various motorsports applications, ensuring accurate operations and performance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Parameterize: Parameterize tire models using data obtained from both lab and track tests.
• Analyze: Analyze flat-track tire data, outputs from tire models, and data from track and Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) tests to evaluate correlation and produce comprehensive analysis reports.
• Support Testing: Attend lab, track, and DiL tire tests to collect and analyze data, performing on-site analysis as required.
• Collaborate: Collaborate with internal Pratt Miller teams and external customers to fine-tune tire models for improved correlation in desktop and DiL simulations.
• Develop: Assist in the development of innovative tire data models, analysis methods, and the proprietary Pratt Miller Tire Plotter tool to support confident vehicle tuning strategies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, with a preferred background in specialized tire/vehicle dynamics knowledge.
• Experience: Proven knowledge of tire data fitting from lab testing, analysis of tire data as it applies to tire selection and car performance optimization, and familiarity with industry-standard tire models and advanced modeling concepts.
• Skills: Strong background in vehicle/tire dynamics, proficiency with numerical analysis methods, expertise in utilizing Excel, MATLAB, and/or Python for data analysis and scripting, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Bonus: Experience in the development or application of software toolsets or utilities.
