Java/JEE Developer (Entry Level) | SAIC

The Tone:
This is a full-time, entry-level software development role at SAIC, located in Ashburn, VA. The company is seeking a highly motivated developer to build robust enterprise software solutions for a critical customer. This position offers a foundational opportunity to apply and grow Java and web development skills within a large, collaborative team environment, contributing to essential software systems.

• Mission: Design, implement, and unit test robust REST microservices and intuitive web applications, contributing to large-scale enterprise software systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Development: Design, implement, and unit test robust REST microservices using Java, Spring, and JUnit.
• Web Applications: Develop intuitive web applications with Angular, ensuring seamless communication with backend microservices.
• Data Management: Craft complex SQL queries and contribute to data modeling initiatives.
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively within a large, Agile development team environment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related engineering field. This is an early career position. Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance based on a CBP Background Investigation.
• Experience: At least 1 year of hands-on Java J2EE/JEE design and software development, including proficiency in designing, developing, and documenting large-scale enterprise software systems. Demonstrated experience in Java web application development is essential.
• Skills: Java, Spring Boot, Spring REST/SOAP web services, Angular and React, HTML/JavaScript/CSS, SQL, XML and JSON, JPA/Hibernate.
• Bonus: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; recent and relevant course projects, internships, co-ops, or personal work showcasing backend development skills; experience with Spring WebFlux and R2DBC; familiarity with microservices architecture principles; experience with JMS and/or Kafka messaging systems; familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS); comfortable working with development environments such as Eclipse and Visual Studio Code; understanding and experience with Agile development approaches; demonstrated strong initiative; excellent verbal/written communication and problem-solving skills.
