Position Summary

The VCU School of Business, Office of Student Engagement (OSE), is seeking a highly motivated and organized Student Engagement Coordinator. The OSE is responsible for designing and delivering professional development opportunities, supporting academic success, and building community for students within the VCU School of Business.

This role is primarily administrative, providing essential operational and program support for multiple student engagement initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering the Professional Development Fund.
  • Supporting scholarship processes.
  • Managing departmental financial reconciliation.
  • Assisting with signature School of Business events.

The Coordinator also has a significant outward-facing responsibility: facilitating the BUSN 201 group mentoring initiative, including hosting mentoring mixers for each class section and tracking program outcomes.

This position works under guided supervision, making complex decisions independently and escalating unprecedented issues to the Director of Student Engagement. The Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Student Engagement within the Business Student Success Unit.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Provide daily administration and operational support for multiple programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Implement operational objectives set by the Director and senior leadership.
  • Administer the Professional Development Fund, including reviewing requests, reconciling expenditures, and generating reports.
  • Manage BUSN 201 group mentoring program logistics, hosting the end-of-semester mentoring mixers, tracking outcomes, and providing technical support for the group mentoring sessions.
  • Manage departmental purchase card reconciliations and support financial record-keeping and procurement processes.
  • Assist with planning and executing School of Business signature events, providing administrative and logistical support.
  • Execute communications and marketing plans for Office of Student Engagement initiatives.
  • Respond to office inquiries related to scholarships, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Participate in scholarship review and selection processes, providing administrative support.
  • Collect and analyze program data to measure success and inform future planning.
  • Develop administrative resources, tools, and communications to support student programs.
  • Provide support and direction to student staff as needed.
  • Perform other administrative duties or projects as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of professional experience in student services, program coordination, or higher education administration.
  • Experience managing or supporting budgets, financial tracking, or procurement processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple programs, projects, or initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience executing communications or marketing initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data tracking systems or CRM platforms such as Smartsheet and Slate.
  • Familiarity with program evaluation, assessment, or collecting outcomes data.
  • Experience planning events and/or facilitating learning and development workshops.
  • Experience in a higher education or professional school environment.
  • Has an interest in working in a higher education environment.

Additional Information

Priority will be given to candidates who submit their application by March 24, 2026.

Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. May require periodic weekend and evening hours. This position is eligible for a limited hybrid and flexible work schedule once training is complete and must be coordinated and approved by the supervisor. Hybrid and flexible arrangements may not be possible during campus events or high student service periods.
