Who We Are Looking For:

GHD is seeking a Graduate Environmental Scientist to support our EHS Compliance team. In this role, you will deliver environmental consulting services to industrial clients across the region. This position offers a dynamic workplace experience, embracing a hybrid model with three days a week in-office collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Permitting & Planning: Assist with permit applications (air, stormwater, wastewater) and develop/update environmental plans such as SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure), SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan), and HWCP (Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan).
  • Compliance Reporting: Prepare various compliance reports including air emissions, hazardous waste, and EPCRA (Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act) reports.
  • Site Visits & Technical Writing: Conduct site visits as needed and produce strong technical writing for reports and documentation.
  • Regulatory Interpretation: Interpret environmental regulations to effectively assist clients in meeting their compliance goals.
  • Personal Capability Building: Engage in assessment and development activities, formal and informal training, and coaching to enhance personal capabilities. Stay updated on relevant technology, external regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Adhere to GHD’s HSE policies and procedures, mitigate environmental risks, and ensure the well-being of yourself and others. Participate in instructing the team on safe working methods and address risky behaviors.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect data from standard sources, input into standard formats, and produce accurate reports.
  • Document Preparation: Organize and prepare complex documents using various office software applications. Gather and summarize data for special reports.
  • Community of Practice Management: Participate in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build personal expertise.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Support senior colleagues in managing client and customer relationships using relevant systems.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Contribute to environmental risk management processes, ensuring alignment with regulations and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Sampling and Testing: Collect straightforward samples and conduct testing as directed, in accordance with defined processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Perform routine tasks related to environmental impact assessments using specified systems and protocols.
  • Bid/RFP/RFT Preparation: Gather information and resources to assist in drafting requests for bid solicitation, requests for proposal (RFP), and requests for tender (RFT).
  • Project Management Support: Provide support for a range of project management activities.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a similar field of study.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of experience preferred, with some knowledge of environmental regulations affecting industry (not required but a plus).
  • Certifications: OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification is a significant plus.
  • Field Work & Travel: Ability to perform field work and travel overnight as required.
  • Skills: Strong written and technical writing skills are essential.

Salary Range:

$66,000-$68,000 based on experience and location.
