This is a SkillBridge Internship at ISS Facility Services, located in Jacksonville, FL. This Maintenance Technician internship is for those who excel at problem-solving and maintaining essential building functions, acting as the indispensable “behind-the-scenes hero” who keeps daily operations smooth and secure. For transitioning military service members, this program offers a unique opportunity to apply their discipline and practical skills in a civilian context, gaining real-world experience and building a foundational career in facilities management while directly contributing to the safety and satisfaction of employees and clients.

The TL;DR

• Mission: This role is dedicated to proactively maintaining the functionality and safety of facility infrastructure, ensuring all building systems operate efficiently to support client operations and team success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to building emergencies and urgent issues, such as unexpected breakdowns or system failures, to quickly diagnose problems and implement effective solutions that minimize disruption to daily operations and ensure occupant safety.
• System Maintenance: Execute essential repairs and preventative maintenance tasks on basic plumbing and electrical systems, including fixtures, wiring, and circuits, to ensure all utilities function correctly and reliably across the facility.
• Vendor Oversight: Monitor and coordinate external service providers, contractors, and vendors, ensuring that all outsourced projects, repairs, and installations adhere to established quality standards, specifications, and timelines, while maintaining a safe work environment.
• Facility Inspections: Conduct thorough routine building checks and inspections, including safety checks and operational efficiency assessments, to identify potential hazards, wear and tear, or system irregularities before they escalate, maintaining the overall security and functionality of the premises.
• Team Collaboration & Special Projects: Actively support the maintenance team by assisting with punch-list items, conducting critical safety checks, and contributing to various special projects, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to ‘jump in wherever needed’ to achieve collective goals and maintain high service standards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, complemented by relevant trade school training, providing a foundational understanding of maintenance principles and practices, suitable for an entry-level professional transitioning from military service.
• Experience: Possess 3-5 years of direct, hands-on experience within a maintenance, facilities management, or a related operational environment, demonstrating practical problem-solving abilities and a track record of effective repair work.
• Skills: Proficient and safe operation of a variety of powered and non-powered tools for repairs and maintenance tasks; strong communication skills for clear and effective interaction with team members, contractors, and clients; and a self-starter mentality coupled with the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively within a team, and maintain efficiency under pressure, all while adhering to a strong safety-first mindset in every task.
