Nuclear Engineering Summer Intern | Naval Nuclear Laboratory

The Tone:
This is a summer internship at Naval Nuclear Laboratory, available at multiple NNL site facilities. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory develops advanced nuclear propulsion technology and provides critical technical support, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the U.S. Navy’s submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. This role offers an immersive professional experience, providing direct contributions to our nation’s naval nuclear reactors and impacting the training of Sailors who operate them. What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct research and development for new technologies and concepts using state-of-the-art techniques.
• Design & Test: Participate in designing and testing software, components, or integrated systems.
• Analysis: Develop models and perform comprehensive data analysis to support various projects.
• Support Operations: Provide support for operations and assist in developing process controls and procedures.
• Collaborate: Work directly with world-class engineers, scientists, researchers, and technicians, contributing to deliverables that directly impact the Navy’s nuclear fleet.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related degree from an accredited college or university. Must be a U.S. citizen and have completed at least your first full year of college by May 2027, with continued enrollment in a degree program throughout the internship.
• Experience: Submission of your most recent unofficial college transcripts and a resume (including anticipated graduation date) is required with your application. Successful candidates must also pass a Federal background investigation and drug test, meeting eligibility for access to classified matter.
• Skills: Foundational understanding of nuclear engineering principles, scientific research methods, and data analysis techniques.
• Bonus: A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0. Prior paid or volunteer internship, co-op, or work experience relevant to the field. Experience with Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), or Naval Nuclear Program.
