Position Overview

Our paid summer internship program offers a rich, rewarding, and hands-on learning experience, providing a valuable opportunity to contribute to our organization. Interns will work directly in their course of study, under the close direction of experienced supervisors/managers. Regular field visits may be required to examine projects and/or test materials.

Duration: Temporary summer internship. Official start and end dates are flexible based on the student’s availability.

Wage: $20/hr – $21/hr

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)

  • Coordinate with various agencies and traffic control subcontractors.
  • Assist in the preparation and setup of job site work.
  • Coordinate work effectively with subcontractors and superintendents.
  • Assist with generating change orders for projects.
  • Assist in tracking daily subcontract and prime contract quantities.
  • Participate actively in production meetings.
  • Provide ongoing project supervision as directed.
  • Attend construction meetings with owners, utilities, and subcontractors.
  • Perform grade checks on job sites.
  • Assist with job quantity measurements.
  • Assist with final billing quantity measurement.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
  • Learn to use Estimating and Bid Tracking Software.
  • Develop skills in reading specifications and plans.
  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing project-related data, incorporating various productions and costs in bid preparation.
  • Complete material and quantity takeoffs.
  • Perform various tests on aggregate production, asphalt mix, and ready-mix concrete, including gradation, moisture, oil content, density, and strength.
  • Conduct material sampling both at the plant and in the field.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be entering their Junior or Senior year of study.
  • Currently enrolled in a Construction Management, or a closely related program of study.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Must be available to work approximately 40 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing. Per RCW 49.44.240, this position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work.
