The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Moran Towing Corporation, located in Wilmington, NC. Moran Towing is a historic American company, boasting over 160 years of operation, specializing in critical marine services such as commercial ship docking, general marine transportation, LNG support operations, environmental recovery, and commercial diving services. As a Deckhand/Ordinary Seaman, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and operational efficiency of our vessels, working a consistent 12-hour day schedule on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation. This position is vital to supporting our mission of meeting diverse marine requirements and ensuring continuous growth and success through dedicated partnership with our employees and customers.

The TL;DR

• Pay: $23–$26 hourly
• Team: Reports directly to the Captain and Mate.
• Mission: Ensures safe and efficient vessel operations and maintenance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operational Directives: Follow all lawful orders issued by the Captain or Mate to ensure smooth vessel operations.
• Safety and Reporting: Act as lookout when required and promptly report any unsafe situations or opportunities to enhance operational safety.
• Deck Maneuvers: Execute essential deck duties, including critical ship docking and tug mooring operations.
• Vessel Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the vessel and its associated equipment.
• Equipment Familiarity: Conduct engine room rounds as needed and maintain thorough familiarity with all onboard vessel equipment and systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career maritime professional, committed to obtaining or holding a Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) and a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) for service. This includes a commitment to apply for the MMC within 60 days of the start date if the waterway is exempt. Additionally, candidates must hold or be able to obtain STCW certification if required for service.
• Experience: Requires successful completion of a USCG 719k Physical examination meeting Merchant Mariner Medical certification standards, alongside passing a Pre-Employment Drug Screening. This role also benefits from an understanding of general vessel operations and maintenance tasks.
• Skills: Capability to safely and efficiently execute all assigned duties, act as lookout, identify and report unsafe situations or opportunities for improvement, and maintain thorough familiarity with vessel equipment. Strong capacity to follow lawful orders from the Captain or Mate is essential.
• Bonus: Prior hands-on maritime experience working aboard a vessel and excellent communication skills are highly valued.
