Graduate Intern: Track & Field/Athletics Facilities Operations

The Graduate Intern for Track & Field/Athletics Facilities Operations is a dynamic 10-month, 35-hour/week position designed to provide comprehensive support to both the Track & Field Program and the broader Department of Athletics. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for individuals pursuing graduate studies to gain practical experience in collegiate athletics, encompassing coaching, operations, and administrative responsibilities, all while ensuring compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas:

  • Coaching and teaching athletes.
  • Recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Team travel logistics and coordination.
  • Planning and execution of weekly practice/training sessions.
  • Organization and participation in community service initiatives.
  • Assisting with academic enrichment programs for student-athletes.
  • Providing counseling and mentorship to students.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Athletic Administration.

Essential Functions

Coaching Responsibilities

  • Program Administration: Collaborate with the Head Coach on the organization and administration of the competitive Track & Field program, ensuring attendance at all practices and meets.
  • Recruitment: Actively assist the Head Coach in recruiting student-athletes at regional and national levels through various methods including emails, phone calls, in-person visits, organizing and scheduling official visits, and managing online recruiting databases.
  • Team Logistics: Plan and organize team meals for away competitions to ensure student-athlete well-being.
  • Fundraising Support: Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive fundraising initiatives to secure funds for non-budgeted expenses and training trips as appropriate.
  • Community Engagement: Organize and facilitate community service projects for team members, aligning with the missions of the NCAA, Regis Athletic Department, and Regis College.
  • Academic Support: Aid in the implementation and supervision of team-specific academic enrichment programming to foster student-athlete success.
  • Compliance: Demonstrate a thorough understanding and strict adherence to the rules and regulations governing collegiate sport competition, as established by Regis College, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, and the NCAA (Division III).
  • Departmental Participation: Actively participate in Athletic Department staff meetings, functions, and other duties assigned by the Head Coach or Athletics administration.

Department of Athletics Responsibilities

  • Events Operations Team: Serve as a core member of the Events Operations Team, attending regular weekly meetings to coordinate departmental activities.
  • Facilities Liaison: Act as the primary liaison to the College’s Facilities Office and coordinator for Athletics Facility Maintenance, ensuring optimal operational conditions.
  • Event Support: Assist the Events Operations Team with the setup, staffing, breakdown, and logistical coordination of intercollegiate competitions and various events.
  • Transportation Management: Support the Events Operations Team in coordinating and maintaining the department’s transportation fleet.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in the intern on-call (IOC) rotation, providing support in the event of a college closure or emergency.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may involve providing support and supervision to undergraduate work-study students, contributing to their development and ensuring efficient departmental operations.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree is required, along with admission to one of Regis College’s graduate programs.
  • Experience: Prior successful playing or coaching experience at the college level is preferred; significant successful high school or club experience will also be considered.

  • Organizational Acumen: Strong ability to problem-solve, prioritize tasks, and complete multiple responsibilities within established deadlines, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Certifications: Appropriate certifications in First Aid / CPR and AED are required within an appropriate time of hire and must be completed (per NCAA regulations) before the beginning of the competitive season.
  • Licensing: Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Salary & Benefits

This comprehensive graduate intern package is designed to support both professional development and academic pursuits:

  • Stipend: $4,000 stipend for the 10-month duration.
  • Housing & Meals: Free room and a full meal plan provided during the 10-month term. Supplemental meal stipends are provided for summer and winter breaks, adjusted based on work schedule and internship start/end dates.
  • Tuition Remission: Tuition remission for two (2) eligible Regis graduate courses per semester, up to a maximum of six graduate courses (18 credits) per academic year.

Eligible On-Campus Graduate Programs for Tuition Remission:

  • 60 credits of MA in Counseling (Note: 24 credits are not covered; the supervised field experience must be completed after the graduate intern role concludes.)
  • 33 credits of MS in Regulatory and Clinical Research Management
  • 30 credits of MS in Digital Marketing and Communications
  • 36 credits of Accelerated MBA program

Eligible Fully Online Graduate Programs for Tuition Remission (on a space-available basis):

  • 33 credits of MS in Health Administration
  • 42 credits of Master of Public Health (Note: 6 credits are not covered by tuition remission)
  • 30 credits of Master of Social Work

Please Note: Courses in Graduate Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech Language Pathology, and Doctor of Education programs are not eligible for tuition remission.

Internship Duration: This is a 10-month position, with the exciting opportunity to continue for one additional 10-month term, for a maximum total of 20 months.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Environment: Typically a normal office environment, free from extreme temperatures, noise, or odors.
  • Work Demands: May involve extended periods working at a computer terminal, on the telephone, or operating other office machinery, requiring good eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Some evening and weekend work is to be expected due to the nature of athletic events and responsibilities.
