Jr. HEAT Camp Coach | Miami HEAT

The Tone:
This is a Seasonal role at the Miami HEAT, located in Miami, FL. The Miami HEAT’s marketing department is dedicated to enriching the community through its Jr. HEAT events, which provide young athletes with an opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals. This role is crucial for creating a positive, safe, and fun environment, ensuring every child not only develops their basketball skills, such as ball-handling, shooting, and defense, but also grows in self-esteem, self-worth, and overall competence within a supportive athletic setting.

• Mission: Positively influence young athletes by teaching basketball fundamentals and fostering self-esteem, self-worth, and competence in a safe and engaging basketball environment during Jr. HEAT events.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruction: Teach the fundamentals of basketball, including but not limited to ball-handling, shooting, rebounding, defense, footwork, and passing, to children attending Jr. HEAT events.
• Safety & Supervision: Ensure a safe and healthy basketball environment for all participants, actively controlling campers, and maintaining constant awareness of all assigned team members’ locations.
• Program Leadership: Lead various engaging activities such as drills, stretches, and team practices, and effectively and fairly referee team games.
• Behavioral Guidance: Handle any disciplinary issues that arise among campers, strictly adhering to guidelines provided by Camp Director Tony Fiorentino.
• Operational Support: Attend early morning staff meetings, assist with the set-up and break down of portable camp baskets, and perform accurate daily sign-out procedures with parents.

• Background: Possess a genuine curiosity and desire to work positively with children in a basketball camp setting, with a commitment to being a significant positive influence on their holistic development, fostering self-esteem, self-worth, and competence in a basketball context.
• Experience: Highly organized and detail-oriented, demonstrating a proven ability to meet tight deadlines, adapt effectively to a fast-paced and fluid environment, and skillfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously throughout camp operations.
• Skills: Proficiency in key Microsoft Applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with foundational knowledge and basic usage of Adobe Photoshop.
