Graduate Intern for New Student & Family Orientation | NC State University

The Tone:
This is a Graduate Internship at NC State University, located in Raleigh, NC. The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) is where students find connections and community, supporting their growth and well-being both inside and outside the classroom. This role is vital for ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition for new students and their families through the coordination and implementation of comprehensive summer orientation programs. The intern will significantly contribute to student success by developing student leaders and supporting new students.

• Mission: Coordinate and implement summer orientation programs to facilitate a successful transition for new students and families.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Implement: Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive schedule of Orientation programs, including sessions for first-year and transfer students, and concurrent family programs.
• Supervise: Co-supervise a team of Orientation Leaders and four Student Coordinators under a model of team supervision.
• Train: Facilitate student leader training sessions for Orientation Leaders and Student Coordinators.
• Support: Provide on-site assistance to new students and campus partners in various capacities during orientation events.
• Coordinate: Coordinate aspects of student staff assessment and lead individual evaluation meetings with student leaders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed at least one year of a master’s program in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, or a similar field.
• Experience: Previous experience advising and/or supervising students.
• Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team of professionals and student leaders; Actively fosters a welcoming culture for students and families.
• Bonus: Previous experience in orientation or transition programs; Previous experience in program or event planning; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; Previous experience in student leader or employee training and development.
