Graduate Intern for Summer Start | NC State University

The Tone:
This is a temporary internship at NC State University, located in Raleigh, NC. The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) at NC State serves as a central resource for student living, gathering, and support, integrating academic and student affairs to promote the holistic success of all students. This role is crucial for providing support in the coordination and implementation of Summer Start, a residential summer transition initiative for incoming students, fostering connections and community.

The TL;DR

• Team: New Student Programs Department, co-supervises a team of Summer Start Mentors
• Mission: Coordinate and implement Summer Start, a residential summer transition initiative for incoming NC State students.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Implementation: Assist in the planning and implementation of initiatives and programs aimed at the transitional success of first-year and transfer students.
• Staff Supervision: Co-supervise a team of undergraduate Summer Start Mentors and one Lead Mentor, including weekly individual meetings.
• Program Coordination: Coordinate logistics for co-curricular programs in collaboration with various campus partners.
• Training Facilitation: Facilitate student leader training sessions for Summer Start Mentors.
• Course Instruction: Facilitate a USC 100: Transition to the University Community course alongside the Assistant Director and Lead Mentor.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed at least one year of a master’s program in higher education, student affairs administration, or a similar relevant field. This is an early career role.
• Experience: Previous experience advising and/or supervising students.
• Skills: Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a highly collaborative team of professionals and student leaders; Demonstrated ability to actively foster a welcoming and inclusive culture for students and families.
• Bonus: Previous experience working with student leaders and students in transition; Previous experience in program or event planning and execution; Previous experience in student leader or employee training and development; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.
