Data & AI Intern | HNTB

The Tone:
This is an internship at HNTB, located in Kansas City, MO. HNTB has delivered solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country for over a century. This role matters as you will be contributing to digital innovation within the Corporate IT Team, focusing on applied AI delivery and enablement across no/low-code platforms, copilots, and cloud AI services. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience, learn from industry experts, and help build communities that matter.

• Mission: To contribute to Data & AI initiatives including analytics automation, AI copilots, and governed experimentation with foundation models in enterprise platforms.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Build: Create and iterate no/low-code AI workflows for automations, knowledge experiences, summarization, and classification.
• Prototype: Develop Copilot Studio experiences, including topics, actions, and connectors, and assist in testing and evaluating responses.
• Support: Aid in Azure AI Foundry / AWS / Gemini experimentation within approved development platforms, focusing on prompting, evaluations, and safety checks.
• Maintain: Help create and keep prompt libraries, reusable components, and lightweight documentation current.
• Evaluate: Assist with data preparation for AI use cases, contribute to quality checks, and compare outputs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrollment in a related undergraduate or graduate program.
• Experience: Familiarity with GenAI concepts (prompting, embeddings, RAG basics, model limitations) and exposure to no/low-code platforms, cloud AI services, and workflow automation.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Angular, React, C#, C++), and excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Bonus: Familiarity with databases, cloud computing, or networking concepts.
