St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health Center in Westport is a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility specializing in care for children, adolescents, and adults with mental health and dual diagnosis substance use disorders. St. Vincent’s Medical Center is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and part of one of the largest providers of mental health services at several locations in Connecticut.

Shift Details

  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Shift Type: Day Shift (GN)
  • Schedule: 7:00am – 3:30pm
  • Weekend Requirement: Required to work every other weekend

Job Summary: Graduate Nurse (GN)

The Graduate Nurse provides temporary practice, pending results of the licensing examination, for a period not to exceed 90 calendar days after the date of graduation. This temporary practice privilege automatically ceases upon notification that the graduate nurse has failed the licensure examination or once the 90 calendar days after the date of graduation has passed and required licensing is still pending.

The GN provides holistic, quality, and cost-effective nursing care for patients/families and/or others within a specific patient population, unit, service, or other primary area of practice, with an awareness of the episode of care. The role involves applying the nursing process within the context of the organization’s Framework for Professional Practice and practicing under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse. The Graduate Nurse reports to the Unit Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
    • Minimum Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.
    • Associate degree hires must obtain a BSN within 6 years of the hire date.
  • Licensing: Application to sit for the CT RN license must be completed, and licensing obtained, within 90 calendar days of the graduation date.
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
