About the Job

Actalent is actively seeking entry-level engineers to help support their power utility team in Dallas, TX. The successful candidate will have an interest in developing work packages for Overhead (OH), Underground (UG), Urban Residential Development (URD), Make Ready, and Street Light projects. This role involves utilizing customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.

Associate Distribution Engineers will gain experience in:

  • Coordination of conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements.
  • Assessment and development of design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
  • Work permit development, easements, and Right-of-Way (ROW) applications.
  • Design of mainline vault medium voltage switchgear, network system design, and distribution system protection and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, primarily associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
  • Comply with Client Safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Develop permitting documents for different Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s).
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ArcGIS, ArcMap, etc.
  • Experience: 0-1 years of experience. Internship or academic projects related to power utilities or energy highly preferred.
  • Certifications: EIT (Engineer-in-Training) not required but preferred.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX. This is a fully onsite position.

Pay and Benefits

  • Pay Range: $29.81 – $29.81/hr.
