Roxborough Memorial Hospital is a 131-bed community hospital that has been serving the medical and health care needs of the Roxborough, Manayunk, East Falls, and northwest section of Philadelphia communities for more than a century, having first opened its doors in 1890. Roxborough Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing has been educating nurses since 1898. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
Responsibilities
The Student Extern functions as an adjunct to the patient care team, performing duties at a level corresponding to successfully completed and passed clinical sections at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, expanding their skill set as approved.
- All newly hired externs will initially function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their current nursing program clinical level.
- Once cleared by the Supervisor, the student may transition to their appropriate skill level.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
