Duties and Responsibilities
- Understands and supports the mission, vision, and values of Harmony Public Schools.
- Models and instills a love of learning in students.
- Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s) assigned in alignment with school standards, curriculum, and student needs.
- Plans, prepares, and delivers engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students.
- Instructs and monitors students in the effective use of learning materials and equipment.
- Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
- Conducts tutoring sessions as needed to meet all students’ academic needs.
- Manages student behavior effectively in the classroom by establishing and consistently enforcing clear rules and procedures.
- Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Implements a clear and consistent behavior management system while fostering students’ character development and sense of community in the classroom.
- Encourages and closely monitors the progress of individual students, using collected information to adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Attends department, school, district, and parent meetings as required.
- Participates actively in district and campus staff development opportunities and serves on staff committees when appropriate.
- Maintains a professional and collaborative relationship with colleagues.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Prepares required reports on students’ progress and classroom activities.
- Establishes and clearly communicates learning objectives for all classroom activities.
- Assigns and thoroughly grades classwork, homework, tests, and other assignments.
- Takes daily attendance accurately and promptly.
- Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and individual student needs.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members to foster a supportive learning environment.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by school administration.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Curriculum and Instruction: Possesses a strong understanding of educational curriculum design, instructional best practices, and learning theories.
- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, internal and external stakeholders, students, and parents.
- Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents.
- Organizational and Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to manage classroom activities and collaborate effectively.
- Technological Proficiency: Ability to use computer equipment, including district-specific software, database applications, spreadsheet, and word processing software, as well as standard office equipment like calculators, copy machines, and telephones.
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data to inform instructional decisions and monitor student progress.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Light Work: May require the occasional light lifting of materials or equipment.
- Nights and Weekend Activities: Occasional participation in evening or weekend school activities will be required.
- Classroom Setting: Position primarily operates in a classroom setting, requiring intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing throughout the day.
- Moderate Travel: Moderate travel may be required for district meetings, professional development, or other school-related events.
