Research Science Intern, Quantum Algorithms Team at CQC

About the Role
As a Research Science intern with the Quantum Algorithms Team at AWS Center for Quantum Computing (CQC), you will work alongside global experts to develop novel quantum algorithms, evaluate prospective applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers, and strengthen the long-term value proposition of quantum computing.
A strong candidate will have experience applying methods of mathematical and numerical analysis to assess the performance of quantum algorithms and establish their advantage over classical algorithms.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Develop novel quantum algorithms.
- Evaluate prospective applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Strengthen the long-term value proposition of quantum computing.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in any of the following subareas related to quantum algorithms:
- Quantum chemistry
- Many-body physics
- Quantum machine learning
- Cryptography
- Optimization theory
- Quantum complexity theory
- Quantum error correction & fault tolerance
- Quantum sensing
- Scientific computing
- And other related fields.

About The Team
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers on a mission to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours/week for a maximum of a 12-week internship.
- Ability to relocate to the internship’s base location.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in a subarea of quantum algorithms or a related topic in theoretical quantum information science.
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting language.
- Interest in staying abreast of new research developments in the field of quantum computation.

Salary Information
The starting pay for this position is listed below. Final starting pay will be based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Starting Day 1 of employment, Amazon offers EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, and 401(k) matching.
- USA, CA, Pasadena: $136,000.00 – $184,000.00 USD annually
- USA, CA, San Francisco: $157,300.00 – $212,800.00 USD annually
