Job Title: Summer Intern – WTIC NewsTalk 1080

Reporting To: Brand Manager

Location(s): Hartford (Farmington), CT

Work Arrangement: Part-time; 3 days per week / 5 hours per day (15 hours total per week)

Internship Duration: 8 weeks; June 1, 2026 through July 24, 2026

Join WTIC NewsTalk 1080, Connecticut’s local radio station, for an exciting summer internship opportunity. This program is tailored for students passionate about media, news, and broadcasting, offering hands-on experience in the dynamic world of talk radio. As a Summer Intern, you will work directly with our morning show, Brian & Company, collaborating with high-caliber talent and contributing to innovative broadcast and digital content. You’ll gain exposure to audio, video, social media, and live event production, learning how content drives engagement and revenue.

Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Do):

  • Assist in the planning and organizational management tasks related to programming, content, and creative for the morning show, Brian & Company.
  • Assist with social media execution, including producing original content for social media platforms.
  • Work with the producer to research and write sports reports.
  • Greet in-studio guests upon their arrival.
  • Contribute and research story and guest ideas for broadcasts.
  • Attend weekly editorial meetings (Tuesdays at 9:30 AM).
  • Contribute occasionally on the air during live broadcasts.
  • Receive an introduction to running a radio board.

Qualifications (More About You):

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated the following qualities in their academic, extra-curricular, internship, and work experiences:

  • Energetic and confident with the ability to think and learn on-the-spot.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A motivated self-starter and a collaborative team player.
  • Strong communicator with excellent writing ability.
  • Highly skilled in time management and organizational tasks.
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and stress.
  • Social Media savvy.
  • Demonstrates solution-based thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interest in the news industry and knowledge of FCC guidelines are a plus.

What To Know Before Applying:

  • Work Schedule: Interns will work 3 days a week, totaling 15 hours. One day will be 5:30 AM – 10:30 AM, and the other two days are TBD.
  • Compensation: This is a paid internship opportunity with a competitive hourly wage.
  • School Credit: School credit is not required, but necessary documentation will be provided if desired.
  • Relocation: Relocation assistance is not provided. Interns are expected to commute to the Hartford/Farmington office.
