Job Title: Tourism & Events Intern

Internship Duration & Schedule:

  • This is a comprehensive internship program spanning 10-12 weeks.
  • Interns will average 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours will be flexible, including day, night, and weekend shifts, depending on scheduled meetings, events, and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:

The intern will play a vital role in supporting the City of Brenham’s tourism and event initiatives, encompassing a diverse range of tasks:

  • Board & Administrative Support:
    • Actively attending board meetings and assisting with board-related duties.
  • Visitor Services & Customer Experience:
    • Providing an outstanding welcome and excellent service to all individuals, groups, and VIPs visiting the city.
    • Serving as the primary point of contact at the Visitor Center, adeptly answering phones, greeting walk-in visitors, and fulfilling information requests with excellent communication skills and enthusiastic customer service.
  • Tourism Development & Outreach:
    • Assisting with the coordination and execution of group tours.
    • Developing and maintaining comprehensive databases of traveling groups and associations to support tourism outreach.
    • Assisting with updates for Tourism Partners, ensuring accurate and current information.
  • Event Planning & Execution:
    • Providing hands-on assistance with various City of Brenham sponsored events, including but not limited to the First Friday Farmers Market and Hot Nights Cool Tunes.
    • Supporting events held at the Barnhill Center.
  • Promotional Material & Resource Management:
    • Producing welcome bags for incoming groups.
    • Copying, folding, and organizing brochures and flyers.
    • Assembling Meetings/Weddings Planning Manuals.
  • General Support:
    • Assisting other staff members as needed and performing additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Education: High School graduation or its equivalent is required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in customer service is preferred, demonstrating an understanding of client interaction and satisfaction.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Possesses strong customer service skills, with a natural ability to engage and assist the public.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Exhibits a high level of responsibility and reliability.
  • Must possess a friendly disposition and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to stay calm and effective in stressful, fast-paced situations.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, as required for event setup and material handling.

Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:

  • A valid Texas driver’s license is required for this position.
