OHLA USA: Internship Program (Civil, Building, Estimating) – Southeast Region

Responsibilities: What You’ll Be Doing

Field Engineer Intern – Civil (Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers)

  • Support daily site operations alongside experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, and Engineers.
  • Inspect incoming materials, manage critical deliveries, and ensure strict quality and compliance with project specifications.
  • Update project schedules, RFIs (Requests for Information), assist with cost tracking, and maintain essential project documentation.
  • Participate actively in safety walk-throughs and consistently uphold all OHLA safety protocols.
  • Gain valuable exposure to key aspects of civil construction including roadway design, traffic control planning, and paving operations.

Field Engineer Intern – Building (Miami only)

  • Support daily field operations on diverse vertical building projects (e.g., healthcare facilities, educational institutions, residential complexes).
  • Coordinate effectively with subcontractors and vendors, manage material deliveries, and oversee quality and compliance on-site.
  • Assist with schedule updates, submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and comprehensive project documentation.
  • Participate in safety protocols specifically relevant to complex building construction environments.
  • Gain exposure to fundamental general contracting and design-build processes.

Estimating Intern (Based in Miami, supporting SE region)

  • Assist with thorough bid preparation, precise quantity take-offs, and detailed cost analysis across both civil and building scopes.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications meticulously, and organize vendor quotes efficiently.
  • Support historical cost tracking, prepare comprehensive bid summaries, and assist with DOT/platform submissions.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to industry-standard estimating software and best practices.

Qualifications: What We Look For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • An eager, proactive, and driven self-starter, ready to dive in and contribute.
  • Highly organized and communicative, possessing strong time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in estimating, heavy civil, or building construction.
  • Familiarity with construction terminology is a plus, but no stress if not – we’ll teach you!
