Responsibilities:
Our internship program is structured to mirror a full-time Financial Representative career, offering you the chance to:
- Learn how to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy.
- Proactively call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
- Prepare tailored financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
- Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
- Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Build invaluable life skills that create future career opportunities.
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you can expect a flexible schedule designed to accommodate your life and academic commitments. With the option to participate year-round, you can continuously grow your practice and receive support for advanced registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. You’ll be inspired at local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with experts across our business. We offer diverse resources to ensure your personal and professional growth throughout the program. Eligible students also have an opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications:

- Currently a full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.
- Possess strong entrepreneurial ambitions and a curiosity for sales.
- Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
- Demonstrate excellent time-management skills.
- Maintain an interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
- Exhibit business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Performance-based earnings and revenue directly tied to your success.
- Learning and Development Incentives of up to $1000/month (not inclusive of earned commissions).
- Additional Productivity Bonuses.
- Comprehensive support for insurance licensing (life, health, disability income, long-term care).
- Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).
Salary Range: USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.

If offered to apply for approval of an intern contract to become a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, a national criminal background check is required. Should the background check results provide information that would not allow someone to work for Northwestern Mutual, approval to contract will be withdrawn. Ratings for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and Northwestern Long Term Care Insurance Company reflect the most recent review by each rating agency.
