Software Engineering Internship Program Overview
We are actively looking for a diverse set of software engineering interns to join our team. You’ll be immersed in an environment alongside ambitious high achievers, including a Unix Lifetime Achievement winner, Putnam medalists, ACM Programming competition finalists, and International Mathematics Olympiad medalists, all united by common goals and a love for learning.
- Program Duration: This is a 10-week summer internship program.
- Location: The internship takes place at our Soho-based New York City office.
- Mentorship & Project: You will be partnered with an assigned mentor and focus on a single, impactful project throughout your internship, culminating in a final presentation.
- Company Culture: Interns have full access to all Two Sigma events, including brown bag lunches and our ongoing guest speaker series. We also host intern-specific social events to help you connect with other employees and experience New York City.
- Role & Team Matching: Students are hired into a general Software Engineering role and will be matched to a specific team 2-3 months before your start date.
You Will Take On The Following Responsibilities:
- Building core infrastructure that supports virtually every other engineering team at Two Sigma, including distributed storage and our public and private cloud environments.
- Ensuring the reliability of “mission-critical” products and systems, such as our main trading system, which are vital to Two Sigma’s operations.
- Utilizing a blend of open source and proprietary tools to construct the environments used for testing and deploying our quantitative strategies (models).
- Building and maintaining low-latency, high-performance infrastructure and systems essential for the efficient execution of trades.
- Building and scaling infrastructure specifically designed to ingest data from over 10,000 sources daily.
- Partnering with our Corporate teams to develop tools, systems, and products that enhance productivity and efficiency across the entire organization.
You Should Possess The Following Qualifications:
- Active coursework towards a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a technical or quantitative field.
- Demonstrated experience with programming languages such as Java, C, C++, Python, Ruby, Perl, or other languages that target the JVM.
- Experience with large-scale systems.
- Exceptional programming skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for building quality software.
- We are seeking critical thinkers who are passionate about technology. While we operate in the data-rich domain of finance, prior financial experience is not a requirement.

Compensation:
The weekly base pay for this internship role will be:
- $3,800/Week (Bachelors)
- $3,900/Week (Masters)
- $4,200/Week (PhD)
This compensation is based on the academic degree conferred. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and/or benefits.
