Michigan Medicine Mission Statement

Michigan Medicine is dedicated to improving the health of patients, populations, and communities through unparalleled excellence in education, patient care, community service, research, and technology development. We strive for leadership activities in Michigan, nationally, and internationally. Our mission is guided by Strategic Principles and encompasses three critical components – patient care, education, and research – all working in concert to enhance our contribution to society.

Responsibilities

The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) is a cutting-edge 20-bed tertiary care center that serves a diverse patient population, receiving referrals from state, regional, national, and international sources. The PCTU specializes in the complex medical and surgical care of infants, children, adolescents, and even adults who present with congenital and acquired heart disease.

Our overarching goal is the provision of exemplary nursing care, deeply rooted in a philosophy of family-centered care. This empowers families to actively participate in the critical decision-making processes and the direct care of their children.

As a PCTU nurse, you will operate in a technology-intensive environment, utilizing advanced life support modalities such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy), and VADs (Ventricular Assist Devices). This role demands the ability to perform complex physiological patient assessments in a high-intensity setting, caring for patients with exceptionally high acuity and rapidly changing clinical statuses. Our patients often undergo the most progressive surgical and catheterization interventions available.

Our nursing staff practices in close, collaborative partnership with leading cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and fellows, providing individualized support and essential education to families and patients throughout their entire intensive care unit admission.
