Job Summary & Overview:

Valmark Financial Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Compliance Intern to join their team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in regulatory compliance within the financial services industry, with a specific focus on areas governed by FINRA and SIPC. You will gain direct exposure to the day-to-day operations of a Broker-Dealer, Registered Investment Adviser (RIA), and Insurance Agency, developing practical skills in monitoring, reviewing, and enforcing compliance standards.

As a Compliance Intern, you will play a supportive and impactful role within the Compliance department. Working closely with Compliance Examiners and the Director of Compliance, you’ll gain valuable insight into the regulatory landscape of financial services and the inner workings of a branch office. This experience serves as a strong foundation for preparing for industry licensing exams such as the SIE, Series 7, and Series 24, and offers a meaningful opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting, develop industry-relevant skills, and build a strong foundation for a future career in compliance, supervision, or financial services operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with responding to internal and external compliance-related inquiries across our three core business lines: Broker-Dealer, Registered Investment Adviser (RIA), and Insurance Agency.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and clients to identify potential compliance red flags and provide training support as needed.
  • Conduct reviews of Registered Representatives’ incoming/outgoing correspondence, including emails and social media content.
  • Support the review and approval process for advertising and marketing materials submitted by representatives.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in college seeking a degree.
  • Degrees such as Business Administration, Organizational Supervision and Surveillance, or Finance are preferred but not strictly required.
  • Candidates must be available to commit 16-24 hours per week onsite in Akron, OH during the fall/spring semesters.
  • Candidates must be available to commit 25-40 hours per week onsite in Akron, OH during the summer months.
