Job Title: Graduate Nurse Internship Program – Pediatric General Care Units
Job Summary
This is an intensive 12-week internship program designed to prepare new Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse (RN) position on a general care pediatric unit. The program features a comprehensive orientation, combining engaging educational sessions with hands-on, precepted bedside clinical experience.
A two (2) year commitment, requiring a minimum of 30 hours/week (0.75 FTR), is mandatory for candidates hired through this internship. This unique internship is a joint initiative involving 12 West, 11 West, and 12 East units. Unit selection will be finalized during the interview process. Education will be delivered in both group and unit-based settings, while precepted bedside experience will take place on your designated onboarding unit.
This posting aims to hire Graduate Nurses for pediatric general care units, with the internship cohort scheduled to commence in July 2026. Flexibility will be offered, with hours ranging from 32-40 hours per week.

Brief Descriptions Of Each Unit Below:
• 12 West Mott: A 32-bed pediatric medical-surgical unit caring for patients from infancy to young adulthood. Primary services include orthopedic surgery, trauma, rehabilitation, nephrology, urology, kidney transplant, neurology, neurosurgery, and endocrinology. Up to 10 beds can accommodate stable pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
• 11 West: A 32-bed unit within the Michigan Congenital Heart Center, featuring up to 12 moderate care beds for patients needing closer monitoring. This unit provides family-centered care to pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery patients, from newborns to young adults.
• 12 East: A 32-bed Pediatric Acute Care Unit delivering comprehensive care with a primary focus on gastrointestinal (GI), pulmonary, pediatric surgery, pediatric burn, and neonatal populations. Known for its energetic, team-oriented environment, 12 East emphasizes family-centered care and a strong commitment to teamwork (“fish” philosophy).

Nursing Specific Info
• Salary & Nursing Framework Level: This UMPNC RN posting is listed as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. The actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at the time of hire. Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F. Internship candidates will have a 5% pay rate deduction while in the Internship, as per the UMPNC contract.
• Required qualifications must be met by the candidate to be interviewed and considered for the position. The posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.
• Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment, including months and years of service along with effort.
• Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*
• The candidate must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. The candidate must not have yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
• Successful completion of the NCLEX must occur prior to the internship start date.
• Applicants must be able to start at the identified start date in July 2026.
• This position requires standing, walking, positioning, pulling, and lifting of heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.
