Job Title: Data Analyst Intern

Job Summary

Battelle is seeking a Data Analyst Intern for Summer 2026, spanning from May 18 to early August. This position offers an onsite/hybrid work arrangement and is located in Columbus, Ohio. The application deadline for this opportunity is February 12, 2026.

The intern will join the Health Analytics Division, which specializes in developing advanced Information Technology and Data Management solutions for government and commercial clients. A primary focus will be to define, architect, and build data pipelines and processes, collaborating closely with subject matter experts, software engineers, and epidemiologists.

Responsibilities

  • Solving technical problems using Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) approaches, often requiring mathematical and/or statistical methods.
  • Regular communication with project leaders, team members (including mathematicians, computer scientists, statisticians, epidemiologists, and engineers), and client stakeholders.
  • Proactively managing expectations and meeting deadlines within a fast-moving, agile software development environment.
  • Conducting and participating in assigned projects with minimal supervision and within specified time and budget constraints.
  • Thriving in a multi-disciplinary environment, addressing problems across various application areas.
  • Preparing and obtaining approval for system and programming documentation.
  • Reviewing system requirements and business processes.
  • Working both independently and as a member of a multi-functional, dynamic team.
  • Providing support for system testing as needed.

Key Qualifications (Required)

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data engineering, data analytics, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, or an equivalent field.
  • Must have Sophomore standing or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of data languages such as Python, SAS, R, Java, C, C++.
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of relational database engines such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent development projects.
  • Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws.

Preferred Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Prior internship or research experience.
  • Understanding of source code control.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of patterns and coding best practices.
