This part-time internship (20 hours per week) is designed for approximately 6 months, with a preference for candidates who can return for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Interns are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from our Orlando office.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

As a Geotechnical Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting various projects and gaining hands-on experience across multiple facets of engineering consulting. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engineering Support: Assisting with complex engineering calculations utilizing advanced computer-based technical tools and software.
  • Technical Documentation: Contributing to the creation of vital project documentation, including technical reports, professional letters, memoranda, detailed plans, specifications, and proposals.
  • Data Management & Visualization: Performing thorough data input and analysis, followed by the preparation of clear and informative maps, tables, and figures to support project findings.
  • Team Collaboration: Effectively following instructions and actively interacting with a diverse team of professionals, including senior engineers, geologists, administrative staff, CADD operators, contractors, and construction personnel.
  • Potential Fieldwork: Engaging in fieldwork opportunities that may include soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater inspections, and direct oversight of drilling operations and contractors.
  • Project Site Travel: Traveling locally to various project sites as required, driving personal, company, or rental vehicles to client locations, company offices, and other business destinations.

Education and Licensure

  • Required: Currently enrolled and registered in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Preferred: Degree focus area specifically in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

  • Preferred Software Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with industry-standard software such as ArcView, CADD, GIS, and/or proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Required Academic & Professional Skills:
    • Outstanding academic credentials, reflecting a strong foundation in engineering principles.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
    • Superior technical writing skills to produce clear and concise documentation.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to tackle complex engineering challenges.
  • Required Transportation:
    • Possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license.
    • Access to reliable transportation for business travel to project sites.
    • A satisfactory driving record for operating company or rental vehicles.
