Position Title: Nonprofit Center Intern

Department: County Executive’s Office – Nonprofit Center

Overview:

The County Executive’s Office is seeking a temporary, paid intern to join the newly established Nonprofit Center for Summer 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical workplace setting, supporting local nonprofits in Anne Arundel County. The Nonprofit Center, a 13,000 sq ft renovated facility in Crownsville, provides flexible, collaborative workspaces and capacity-building services aimed at advancing the health and well-being of residents. Interns will play a vital role in assisting with communications, events, general operations, and special projects.

Internship Details:

  • Term: Summer 2026
  • Dates: May 28, 2026 – August 5, 2026 (10 weeks) or August 19, 2026 (12 weeks). Start date may be flexible.
  • Hours: Average 24 hours/week (minimum 8 hours/week), to be completed Monday through Friday during business hours (9 am – 6 pm) with occasional evening hours.
  • Compensation: $16/hour
  • Location: In-person at the Crownsville property, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, with occasional opportunity for remote work.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft/edit newsletter articles, organizational spotlights, social media posts, and other marketing materials.
  • Assist staff with various office tasks to support resident nonprofit organizations.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of on-site programs, events, and activities.
  • Research potential center-based services, including a volunteer program.
  • Correspond with organizations, county agencies, and the public.
  • Select and complete a special project of interest that benefits the Nonprofit Center or the nonprofit sector in Anne Arundel County.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a US-accredited university or college.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
  • Reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Academic Background: Ideal for students studying Marketing, Business Administration, Health and Human Services, Political Science, Civics, Public Administration, Communications, Graphic Design, or related fields.
  • Skills:
    • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides) and Canva.
    • Ability to interact and build professional relationships virtually and in-person.
    • Ability to adapt in a changing work environment.
  • Interests:
    • Demonstrated interest in nonprofit management, health and human services, and civic engagement.
  • Local Knowledge: Knowledge of Anne Arundel County.
