Job Description

This posting is for a Cybersecurity Intern at The MITRE Corporation. It is important to note that this is not an application for a specific position, but rather an opportunity to be included in a pool of candidates for various internship roles across the company. If a candidate is selected for consideration for a particular internship, a member of MITRE’s Student Programs team will reach out. The primary hiring season for MITRE internships typically runs from September through March.

Job Responsibilities
As a Cybersecurity Intern at MITRE, you will have a hands-on opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals and apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges within cybersecurity and information security. This role is designed to provide valuable experience in one or more of the following specialized areas:
Adversary Emulation: Simulating the tactics, techniques, and procedures of real-world adversaries.
Deception and Adversary Engagement: Developing and deploying methods to mislead or detect adversaries.
Cyber Effects and Reverse Engineering: Analyzing and understanding the functionality of malware or systems.
Cyber Forensics: Investigating cyber incidents to determine their cause and scope.
Cyber Threat Intelligence: Gathering and analyzing information about potential cyber threats.
Operational Technology Engineering and Response: Securing and responding to incidents in industrial control systems and critical infrastructure.
Internet of Things (IoT) and Mobile Device Security: Addressing security challenges specific to connected devices and mobile platforms.
Engineering and Architecting Safe, Secure, and Resilient Systems: Designing systems with inherent security and resilience features.
Cyber Policy Development: Contributing to the creation and evaluation of cybersecurity policies.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following fundamental requirements:
• Must be a full-time student actively pursuing an accredited degree program in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a closely related discipline.
• Must continue to be enrolled the semester following the internship, indicating an ongoing academic pursuit.
• Possess foundational knowledge in cybersecurity and/or information security methodologies, frameworks, tools, and/or programming languages.
• Demonstrate sustained excellence in academic performance.

Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who possess the following qualities or experiences will be considered more competitive:
• Experience having applied cybersecurity or information security learning in a practical setting, such as an internship, research project, or laboratory environment.
Proficiency in using cybersecurity and/or information security methodologies, frameworks, tools, and/or programming languages.
Familiarity with cybersecurity operations and/or the development of cyber policies.
Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating self-motivation and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated interest in serving the public through previous work experience, volunteer activities, or other relevant engagements, aligning with MITRE’s public interest mission.

Clearance Requirements
In addition to passing MITRE’s standard employment background check, the candidate may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance. Eligibility for such a clearance is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines, which requires U.S. citizenship. Depending on the work program assigned, other jobs may necessitate vetting for various levels of agency public trust, fitness, suitability, controlled access, and special programs access determination.
• This requisition does not specify a minimum existing clearance required at the time of application.
• This requisition requires the hired candidate to obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the necessary clearance(s) as determined by the role.

Salary Compensation Range
The annual salary compensation range for this internship is $45,500 – $57,000 – $68,500. The midpoint is $57,000 annually.

Work Location Type
The work arrangement for this position is Hybrid.
