Job Description, Detailed

This is a full-time, paid internship within the Giant Eagle Intern Development Program, designed for college/university students to gain real-world business experience. The program lasts 10 weeks and focuses on providing hands-on training in running a retail grocery business.

• Implementing a Guest-first approach.
• Learning to lead and motivate a team.
• Driving sales results.
• Merchandising products.
• Providing an exceptional experience for Guests.

Locations:
Internships are located within Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets. Specific location details and travel requirements will be provided by a member of the Talent Acquisition team during the interview process.

Second Year Opportunity:
Upon successful completion of the 10-week internship, interns will have the opportunity to return for a second year. This can be either in a Retail Shared Services (corporate) department that aligns with their area of study or as an elevated retail intern.

Experience Required:
• 0 to 6 months of general work experience.
• Strong proficiency in MS Office applications: PowerPoint, Word, Excel & Outlook.
• Excellent work record.

Experience Desired:
• Previous retail experience is a plus, but not required.

Education Desired:
• At least 1 year of college or higher education completed.

Lifting Requirement:
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Travel Required:
Regional – Daily: 10 – 25% (indicating regular local travel within the region).
Regional – Overnight: Less than 10% (occasional overnight travel within the region).

Job Responsibilities (Typical Day May Include):
• Shadowing the store leader and various department leaders to understand operations.
• Leading through daily priorities, taking initiative in day-to-day tasks.
• Partnering with leaders to learn about coaching techniques and training methodologies for team members.
• Collaborating with leadership to set and achieve goals and expectations for the store and team.
• Working alongside fellow retail leadership interns on specific projects.
• Consistently delivering an excellent Guest (customer) experience.
• Working with leaders to understand business reporting and analyze Guest insights to improve performance.
• Actively participating in all internship training activities, development opportunities, and company events.
• Fostering a safe, diverse, and inclusive culture within the store environment.
• Carrying out specific duties as assigned by leaders.
• Walking the store regularly and actively engaging with both Team Members and Guests.
