Job Description

About Company

Fresco AI is at the forefront of building the next-generation AI assistant specifically for the vast $12T construction industry. The company’s core mission is to empower field teams by enabling them to instantly find and act on critical information often buried within project documents and drawings. Fresco AI is well-supported, backed by prominent venture capital firms including Y Combinator, SignalFire, and Bessemer Venture Partners, and collaborates with leading national and Bay Area general contractors.

Job Description: Engineering Intern

Fresco AI is seeking an Engineering Intern to join their team in San Francisco. This is a hands-on role where the intern will contribute to production features from day one, tackling unique domain-specific challenges without readily available solutions.

What You’ll Do:
Ship End-to-End Features: Develop and deploy features across both web and mobile platforms using Next.js/React/TypeScript and Expo.
Enhance AI Retrieval Quality: Improve the performance of the AI stack through work on embeddings, pgvector, hybrid semantic + lexical search, and OCR/vision processing on construction plans.
User Interaction and Iteration: Engage directly with users (superintendents, project managers) to understand needs, measure impact, implement fixes, and ship improvements rapidly.
Data and API Design: Contribute to shaping robust data models and APIs to ensure system speed and reliability.
Strategic Pairing: Collaborate with the CTO on key product initiatives and contribute to the longer-term technical direction of the company.

Our Stack:
Frontend: React + TypeScript
Backend: Next.js + TypeScript
Deep Computation: Python
Mobile: Expo (React Native)
Data/Infra: Postgres + pgvector (Neon), Prisma, Vercel, S3, AWS Textract
AI: OpenAI (GPT-4.x/vision/embeddings), RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) over documents and drawings.
Process: Utilizes PRs for visibility, lightweight review processes, and high individual ownership. A strong belief in well-designed data models as the foundation for good code.

You Might Be a Fit If:
• You have a proven track record of building and shipping something meaningful, such as applications, tools, or research projects.
• You are comfortable with React/TypeScript, Node, and SQL, or demonstrate a strong eagerness to quickly ramp up in these technologies.
• You possess a genuine curiosity about the construction industry and how software can effectively be deployed in field environments.
• You exhibit a low-ego, high-ownership mindset, with a bias towards shipping features and iterating in tight, fast loops.
• You are able to commit to a full-time, in-person internship in San Francisco, with a preferred duration of 10–12+ weeks.

Why Fresco:
Direct Access to Leadership: Work closely with the CEO and CTO, who are readily accessible.
Real-World Impact: Your code will be utilized by leading general contractors, moving beyond mere demos into practical application.
Strong Backing & Fast Pace: Benefit from backing by top VCs (YC, SignalFire, Bessemer) and a streamlined path from idea conception to production.
Small Team, High Impact: Join a small team environment that offers immediate impact and operates with zero bureaucracy.

Schedule:
• This is an in-person internship based in San Francisco.
• Typical working hours are approximately 9am–7pm, Monday–Friday.
• There is an optional Sunday “hack time” for those eager to build further.
• This is a full-time internship position.
