Government Funded Student Intern (WDTS) – Fall 2026 | Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
The Tone:
This is an internship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, located in Livermore, CA (hybrid). The TL;DR

• Mission: Help ensure that the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Nation have a sustained pipeline of highly skilled and diverse science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workers.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate: Under close supervision, participate in research in an assigned scientific or engineering area for the full 10-16 week program, working approximately 40 hours per week.
• Present: Make an oral or poster presentation on the outcome of your research activities, and for SULI interns, submit a one-page peer review of another intern’s talk or poster.
• Report: Complete and submit a comprehensive research project report along with an abstract of your research in the required format.
• Engage: Attend all scheduled events, including lectures, tours, and group activities, as part of the provided professional development opportunities.
• Document: Complete the entrance and exit surveys through the online system provided at the beginning and the end of the internship.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Pre-selected Office of Science Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) student, currently pursuing an undergraduate degree or holding a Bachelor’s degree without having started graduate studies, with an interest in STEM careers.
• Experience: Official notification of acceptance into one of the Office of Science WDTS programs (Community College Internship (CCI) or Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI)), followed by selection by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Lab Education Director (LED).
• Skills: Demonstrated commitment to participating in scientific research, fulfilling program requirements including presentations and reports, and dedicating approximately 40 hours per week over the 10-16 week program term.
